3D Modelling Report

In this report I will be producing a report that explores various uses of 3D Modelling and I will be explaining how and why its used and the advantages to be found on this. I will be using different examples and explore of the various uses of 3D such as:
Product design
Animation
TV
Film
Web and games
Education
Architectural walk-through
Cinema 4D has been very influential when making games such as Minecraft and gamers have gained lots of benefits from this program when creating games. Cinema 4D has also been massively influential when creating iPhone and iPod games such as Angry Birds which is one of the biggest selling iPhone and iPod games to date and they are still making new Angry Birds games the latest one being the Star Wars Angry Birds game.

Web and Games

Within web and games a production team called Third-frame studios, they love computer games like no one else and they are experts in racing games and also they were a big help in the creation of Minecraft and they also loved the idea of creating iPod and iPhone games but with making iPhone and iPod games  nobody had the time to turn words into action. A few months later a guy called Andraz Logar had some spare time and created a game for all graphic elements for the game and the name of this was Groove Racer. Andraz had special look inside and he wanted a isometric landscape that resembled Minecraft. The cars had to look realistic so they could look like real 3D cars. Andraz chose to use Cinema 4D as his choice to create all the different graphic elements for the game, which would then carry the name Groove Racer. Because of Andraz experience on Cinema 4D, the team knew they could effectively be used to create numerous graphic elements without switching back and fourth to different applications. After these 3D models were completed they were used to set up scenes for the game and in the end six large renderings were needed which were cut down to size in post production using the slice tool so they could integrate into the game engine cameras with parallel projection were used to create the isometric look. As you can see within Web and Games Cinema 4D has big advantages in game because it has helped with Minecraft and this is one of the biggest games now on Xbox One and Xbox 360 as it has grossed a lot of money.

Education
Cinema 4D is ever growing across the world with people in the majority of the world and no more than on the Chinese Market and it is increasing at an impressive rate and one factor that is making this evident is the steady growth in the training sectors Shanghai based Image Digital Technology is one of the few selected for Cinema 4D training to educate people around 16 year olds or above to use Cinema 4D and be able to get apprenticeships and jobs in Cinema 4D. If all participants learn to use Cinema 4D the results are quite astonishing and at the end of all the training they are tasked to create a short film within the 30hour timeline. The teams themselves determine what they are going to be making and the best films get selected at the end of year and last years winner created a post industrial advertising clip and the group that was inspired from a Norwegian company and they had 30 hours to complete this and it took them 30 hours to Model, Animate and create it. As you can see with this people across the world are using Cinema 4D and people in Shanghai are using it to maybe gain jobs and apprenticeships within Cinema 4D and these people are creating short films using Cinema 4D within 30 hours and then getting awards for them from all there hard work and dedication to what they are creating and they are going sleepless to create these over the 30 hours to get it finished.

TV
Cinema 4D has had a massive impact on television especially the Logos that you can see on the television and in 2012 the Football Tournament Euro 2012 was happening and Cinema 4D had a help on the logo for that tournament. This logo was created in the time of 4 months by a man called Helder Pombino and his team and what they did was he had his team create dynamic ambitions based on Brandias Designs. Avoiding a photo-realsitic look, these animations had to capture expression, style and feeling. In the course over four months the trio at Bikini developed video vignettes, clips and also transitions and stills for the euro 2012 logo and this was all done using the program, cinema 4D features were used to create great looking animations for the wide variety of elements involved. Bikini used Cinemas 4Ds render and its sketch and toon feature to create a desired look for the Euro 2012 logo. This hard work in creating this logo paid of when they won an award for Best motion graphics of 2010 from creative portugal which is a very prestigious prize. This prize shows what you can do with Cinema 4D and it shows that you can create anything on Cinema 4D.

Film

Cinema 4D has had a massive hand in film and especially with the creations of cartoon logos such as the Cartoon Network and one of the biggest ones was the Ben 10 series that has been created. Ben 10 first aired in 2006 on Cartoon Network this was one of the launch pads for animated television programs. The work for Ben 10 is slick combinations of 3D environments created with Cinema 4D and 2D characters which were first drawn and then animated using Cinema 4D and Adobe flash. A few of the characters shots from Ben 10 were combined with back drops in post production but the creators say that most of everything else involved. The characters are often required to produce suitable reflections on the floor which are cast shadows such as when Ben is running through  explosions and to achieved this what happened is they applied alpha onto a flat pane which is positioned with the scene and animated. Cinema 4D was used a lot for the floating objects that are in the program and also to create the weapons that are used and also it was used to create his watch that allows him to change into all the ten monsters in the program. After everything has been created on Cinema 4D all the shots would have to be sweetened and all the effects were added to brighten light sources and all the explosions in the cartoon. Three promo shots were created for the TV show Ben 10 omniverse which were created over the course of six to seven weeks with various other programs in creation at the same time with team numbers varied which would then consist of six-eight people and two to three flash animators as well and two Cinema 4D and two composing. The end result of it is worth it because Ben 10 is still being shown on Cartoon Network and it gets some of the highest viewing figures on there and they are continuing to make more series to add on to it this is something else that Cinema 4D has had a massive influence.

Architectural walk-through

Cinema 4D is also used when planning on creating new buildings and showing what they are going to look like to the public before they create these buildings for marketing and now this is part of the building process itself. Some clients will struggle to interpret these 2D Drawings and clients tend to feel a lot more comfortable with it being shown on a 3D image scheme and when showing clients these 3D image schemes it allows you to gain some feedback from the client you are pitching your idea to. Clients often think that you can create these models off one click on the program Cinema 4D but to ensure that these are speedy 3D visuals Frank Ellis made sure that he used the powerful and well integrated combination of vectorworks and Maxon Cinema 4D and then they will be using them to design the building and visualise it. Cinema 4Ds support for Vectorworks includes imports of all materials and lights. With smarter updater you can go back to Vectorworks and edit or make any amendments if it is needed without having the fear of losing your work that you have already done on  Cinema 4D such as the addition of trees, people and animation. With 3D visuals now a firm part of the design process, Franklin Ellis is finding out that not just the buildings that are its also the finer details such as the surroundings near the building also the junctions of the buildings of the building to the client and contractors.

Product Design

Cinema 4D is also very helpful when it comes to product design such as when creating the new Liquorice All Sorts Lickety Split. Bertie was created in 1929 has remained unchanged since he was first created nearly 100 years ago he consists of blue feet, yellow shorts, striped body and a pink face but he was rebranded to keep him up to date. and this meant jumping from 2D Illustration into hyper real 3D. The job of visualising the new look Bertie fell to Emlyn Davies who is the creative director of Caerphilly in South Wales where he was given the project when he was working for Cadburys design studio. The character Bertie was animated in Cinema 4D and then he was texturised using high resolution photographs of actual sweets some of the materials were really simple just using the high-res images which would work really well and time was a major factor when creating Bertie and finding short cuts was key. Cinema 4Ds character tools allowed bones to be placed within the model which that would blind to mesh and disort it when it was moving. This would quickly manipulate Bertie into his stride pose. With Bertie rigged the it was tie for him to be rendered and area shadows and light was used as they wanted the best results they possibly could get after this they made adjustments using photoshop. Bertie was then output as 16-bit images and with multi pass layers to help colour with colour correcting and for the addition or removal of shadows and highlights. The most useful thing about using Cinema 4D for creating Bertie it was ether the creating of the hands because it was easy to use and take out a lot of work thats never been seen by a client who don't understand the process.
