Compared to first intention
Here is my finished cinema 4D project. My first intentions were to make a Call of Duty themed nazi zombies map withy zombies this was my initial idea. I was going to start making my Nazi zombies map but because of how long it would have taken me to create the zombies and the map I decided against doing this. After this I thought to go and create an advertisement board for Call of Duty Nazi zombies and I still wanted to add a zombie to the advertisement board and again with the amount of time I had to create my advertisement board creating the zombie and the ray gun would have been time consuming. After this I just decided to create zombie arms, create a sniper, a pistol, some bullets and a logo and to make it into a advertisement board and I feel that it has all turned out the way I wanted it to the only thing I wanted to add was maybe add a soldier in there as well but because I only had around 3 weeks to create everything I didn't get to chance to create a soldier for my advertisement board.
Fitness for purpose
I feel that my product is highly effective and fits my purpose. This is because it is designed to make gamers excited and ready for when the Call of Duty Apocalypse Zombie map pack drops. Also by designing it as an advertisement board to put outside a public place such as a cinema then this could attract more customers who haven't seen the trailer and might want to go out and purchase the map pack and then this could be used as a marketing tool but as well by using it as an advertising board you can also give Call of Duty more of a global reach. One of the reasons I didn't want to put the zombies in as a felt that it would give to much away about the map pack and I would rather people to be surprised by how the zombies are designed. That is also why I didn't ad any of the special new guns because I would rather people be surprised and find them on the map themselves because this gives the audience more anticipation and excitement for when the map pack is due out to explore it and find all the new features to the map.
Technical Qualities
The making process of my advertisement board was that I did it all in stages I made everything separately. I started off by creating the logo first and I did this using DaFont to download the font that I chose which was the Call of Duty official font style and measured them up to the size of the image. Then what I did was download it into Illustrator to create the font. After this what I did was I imported it into cinema 4D and added all the effects. I downloaded and I then imported them into Cinema 4D positioned them in after this I extruded the text and added materials to make the logo look like it is burning and red for the title. This will symbolise blood and the fire on the call of duty which will symbolise fire and fighting against the zombies. After I created the Logo I started creating my weapons and I chose to create a Sniper and a Pistol. The process for both guns were similar I started off by choosing two guns that I would like to make. I chose the Bezier Spline so I could go around the outline of the guns so I could get the shape of the weapons. After this I added the extrusion tool and this made the gun bigger and made the guns look more realistic. After this was done I added all the colour to the guns and I have added a Gold to make my gun look similar to the desert eagle from Call of Duty 4. I also added the colour to the Sniper I created and this is an inspiration from the Gun the M4A3 from Call of Duty 4. The next models I created were my hands and the process I went through to create this was. I created a box first and extruded them out to look like the size of my hand and I extruded them to show my knuckles then what I did is added a hypernurbs so It would then look like the image below then I did some rotating of the hand sorting out all the edges that needed levelling out and then the left hand and the right hand will be ready to add to the body when completed. The final objects I created were my bullets and what I have done is created them using a cylinder and a bezier tool to straighten out the edges and then I added the casing to go around the bullet to make them look more realistic then I added the colour to it.
Ideas Generation
The whole Idea of creating a Nazi Zombies map originally generated from when I was in school and played a lot of computer games. I really enjoyed playing Call of Duty Nazi Zombies and the map I was originally going to create was the first map that was ever released Nacht Der Untoten as this was my favourite map to play on and I thought I would be able to create it on Cinema 4D. But I thought it would have been to time consuming with me having to create the zombies which would have taken a few lessons to make just the one because you have to add all the details such as the blood and there postures. It would have been a struggle to create the map because I would have had to make the magic box and make the guns on the walls so your able to buy them and also the perks you have on there as well. So after this I decided it was best to create a advertisement board advertising the new map pack by taking some inspirations from other Call of Duty games such as Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty world at war as these two were my to favourite games growing up. The inspirations that I have taken are the guns from Call of Duty 4 and the style of the hands and logo from Call of Duty World at War and the other models I created myself from myself.
Work Flow and Time Management
The way I managed my time was I had around 5 weeks to do everything such as the planning, the modelling and the evaluation. I split my time up so that I did a weeks worth of planning which averaged out at 3 lessons on that week to do all my planning for my models such as all my drawings for my models. Also I had a week to do some reproach into how I was going to create my guns, the background, my zombie hands and do a proposal I managed to achieve this in a week. I gave myself 3 weeks to do all my modelling on Cinema 4D so I wanted to have made 2 models a week and on the first week because it was new to me Cinema 4D I only managed the logo as I was still learning how to do everything on Cinema 4D. In the second week with the assistance of my tutor I was able to make both my guns and also be able to make the hands so within that week I was able to create 4 models leaving me with one left on the final week which was the bullets and to finish the background. I was able to do this in my final week so I felt that I managed my time well by leaving a week for planning 3 weeks for modelling and a week to tie up lose ends and do my evaluation.
Any Teamwork Needed
As this was an individual task where we had to do our own work there was no team work needed for my 3D Modelling project. There were discussions between the class to pitch our idea where we would hand in our proposal to our tutor and he would then read out each one to the class. After this he would then get a few opinions from the students in our class on the idea such as what they think of the idea and is it achievable. This was where I realised that my first idea would take to much time to make with all the detail needed to make the zombies and the map. Another reason for me not doing this was the time frame we had with around 5 weeks to make everything and this unit was considered one of the hardest out of all 18. The only help that I received was from my tutor when I was struggling to use Cinema 4D. Such as when I was creating my logo I didn’t know very much about the program and how it worked so I had to ask my tutor to show me how to add the flames onto the logo. After this I was able to get on with making everything myself with just help now and again from my tutor.
What I enjoyed the most and least about Cinema 4D
What I enjoyed most about 3D modelling was firstly learning how to use Cinema 4D as it is a very exciting program and something that I have never used before. Whilst I was doing my research into this program and how to work Cinema 4D I learned that a lot of the leading Game company use this program such as Activision and Infinity Ward. These two companies are the reason behind Call of Duty being such a massive game with the Xbox and Playstation. This was where I first thought of the idea to create a Call of Duty themed Nazi Zombies map although I then went onto changed my idea to an advertisement board. One of the reasons why I didn’t enjoy 3D Modelling was because in parts I did find it difficult to work Cinema 4D and sometimes creating my models I found that stressful. This is because I had never used the program before and everything was new to me and at first I struggled to create anything well before I started making my advertisement board. I struggled with the practices we had to do such as when we was creating the mug as a group step by step with the tutor to learn Cinema 4D I struggled with this so I knew that this 3D Modelling project was going to be a challenge for me. If I was to do this project again I would maybe consider my timeframe better as I had to change my initial idea at the last minute because it would take to long to make. I would also like to make the Super Smash brothers which are part of the Mario and Luigi game but that would depend on my timeframe.
Responded to the Specification
When I went back to my proposal I wrote down that I wanted to create a map from the influence of the Call of Duty World at War Nacht Der Untoten. I really wanted to do this idea as this was one of my favourite games for when I was growing up. But I haven't followed my initial specification because I decided to change my idea to creating an advertisement board for the new map pack to be placed around cites. I chose to do this idea a my initial idea would have taken to long to model with all the details such as the colours on there hands and all the bullet holes. Also the way the zombies walk and there posture this would have been very difficult to make. The idea that I went ahead with the advertisement board I really enjoyed doing all the modelling for this but I would have really liked to create the zombies and the map to go with it as I feel it would have looked really good once it was all put together.
Technical Competlances
Within the Technical Competlances and the way my models look. I feel that my logo looks exactly like the official Call of Duty Logo and this was what I wanted mine to look like. The only thing that is different from mine and the real one is that I have added colour to mine and the colour I chose was red to symbolise the blood for it. The two guns that I have created I have modelled them to two of the guns from Call of Duty 4 this was where I took inspiration to create these guns and the only thing that I have changed is on the sniper I have changed the colours from green and black to brown and black. The bullets and the hands I have designed myself. The bullets I decided to add the survive myself this is a pun to see how long you can survive during the game. The hands I decided to make them brown instead of red to show them digging out of the ground to come and attack you. I feel that I struggled at the start with Cinema 4D when I was doing the practice create the tea cup. I struggled to make this when we was doing this in a group. At the start of all my modelling creating the logo again I struggled making the logo because I hadn't had that much practise with the program. After doing this and I had more of a practice with Cinema 4D I felt that I started to get better at using the Cinema 4D and I managed to make the rest of my models in a shorter space of time and I started to enjoy using the program more. One of the problems I had whilst using Cinema 4D was that sometimes I had trouble seeing the images I was using once I made the images bigger. But after I had foreseen this problem I really enjoyed using the program Cinema 4D.
